12 things You Didn't Know About Zambia's late President Michael Sata

As the world joins the people of Zambia to mourn their president below are a few facts you may want to learn about the departed son of Africa -“the King Cobra”.

He once worked as a police officer

He lived in London working on the railway sweeping the platforms

He was a porter at Victoria railway station.

In 1995, he was appointed as minister without portfolio.

He graduated as a Bachelor in Political Science at Atlantic International University on 2011.

At one opposition campaign event, Sata was reported to have ripped apart a cabbage in front of his supporters in reference to then president Mwanawasa’s speech impediment, which was the result of an injury sustained in a 1992 car crash.
He once referred to Hong Kong as a country and Taiwan as a sovereign state. These 2 are Chinese territories.

Sata’s right-hand man in the campaign Dr. Guy Scott is a white Zambian politician.

On 15 March 2007, Sata was deported from Malawi shortly after arrival on allegation that he was on a mission to assist that country’s former president, Bakili Muluzi.

Sata suffered a heart attack on 25 April 2008 and was airlifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa where he recovered.

Sata was whisked away from late president Mwanawasa’s funeral on order from the deceased widow, Maureen Mwanawasa.

He won the presidency on his 4th attempt.

He died on 28 October 2014 in London at the age of 77
